FAQ:
- What are Individual Learning Consultations (ILCs)?
-
Designed to connect course content and skills to larger themes, ILCs are one-one-one meetings where students learn to identify areas of growth, develop course-specific learning strategies, and set personalized goals. The OASUS currently offers ILCs for coursework related to STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and math).
Meetings typically last 30 - 50 minutes and frequency is dependent on student needs and goals.
- Who will students meet with?
-
At this time, all ILCs meet with our STEM Learning Specialist, Eastman Landry. He is a Rice engineering graduate with over 16 years experience in science and math classrooms. He works closely with faculty to ensure that content and approaches emphasized in the ILCs align with course learning outcomes. Read more about Eastman here.
- Who are ILCs for?
-
This program is designed for students who have experienced significant and persistent learning challenges in a STEM subject area. ILCs are also appropriate for students who have experienced a significant interruption in their learning. With this in mind, if you are curious about exploring your approach to learning at Rice, you are welcome to give one a try!
- How does an ILC differ from other advising on campus?
-
Don't let picking the "right" office prevent you from signing up! All student support offices are here to help you succeed at Rice and can help connect you to resources.
