Testing Center

Information for Faculty

Welcome to the OASUS Testing Center

The OASUS Testing Center offers an accessible testing environment for students with alternative testing needs. We work with partner courses to ensure an equitable assessment experience. All students enrolled in our partner courses can use the Testing Center if they have testing accommodations registered with the SDRC, or their professor has approved the use of the Testing Center for alternative testing needs. Students with registered testing accommodations who are not enrolled in our partner courses may request to use the Center with their instructor’s permission; in these cases, availability is not guaranteed and scheduling requests may be denied.

Approval to test in the Center is determined exclusively by either the Student Disability Resource Center or course faculty. OASUS does not determine accessible testing eligibility.

Syllabus Language for Partner Courses

This course partners with the OASUS Testing Center to provide an equitable testing environment for students with accessibility needs. For information about scheduling your exams, see the Testing Center - Information for Students page of the OASUS website. Please note that all exams must be scheduled at least 5 business days in advance of the requested exam date. OASUS can only guarantee a seat for requests made within this window. Accommodations are an important way to ensure equitable learning for all students. For more information about academic accommodations, please contact the Student Disability Resource Center (sdrc@rice.edu).

Faculty Processes

Partner Courses

Your primary platform for managing student testing is the Rice’s accommodations management portal (AIM). Here, you will complete an Alternative Testing Agreement to establish testing parameters for your students and upload your exam materials. This is also where your students with registered accommodations will schedule their exams and where you will retrieve their completed exam materials.

Students who do not have SDRC-registered testing accommodations may use the Testing Center for accessibility-related reasons, as determined by course faculty. Some common alternative testing reasons include conflicts created by religious obligations or registrar-scheduled courses, or health or wellbeing-related concerns. In order to make the Testing Center accessible to as many students as possible, we ask that this option not be used for make-up exams.

Please use the following form to submit the list of approved alternative testers: SP26 Alternative Testing Eligibility Form for Faculty Partners. This process should be completed for each exam, at least five days before the exam date.

Please note that students must complete their exam between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm (extended during final exams) and that we ask faculty to allow a two-day window for scheduling.

Non-Partner Courses

If a student in your course with SDRC-registered accommodations requests to take your course exam in the Testing Center, you may grant them permission to do so. In this case, approval depends on availability, and the student is not guaranteed a seat. Students can make the request on our website: OASUS Testing Center - Students. Once requested, the course professor will be prompted to provide approval, exam parameters, and exam materials.

Please note that students must complete their exam between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm (extended during final exams) and that we ask faculty to allow a two-day window for scheduling.

Testing Center Policies

  • Exams must be scheduled a minimum of 5 business days in advance of the testing date. Scheduling requests received less than 5 business days before the intended testing date will be considered a late request. Late requests are accepted but do not guarantee a secured testing date.
  • Students must take their exam between 8:30am and 5:30pm on the day of the regularly scheduled exam, or within the time-frame approved by their instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they comply with this policy.
  • Active Testing Center Hours are from 8:30am - 5:30pm during testing periods. Because all exams must be completed by 5:30pm, start times later than 2:30pm must be approved. These hours will be extended during the Final Exam period.
  • Late Arrivals and No-shows
    • Students arriving late for their scheduled exam may be asked to reschedule.
    • Students who miss a scheduled exam must meet with the Director before they will be permitted to schedule another exam. Contact us at oasustesting@rice.edu to request an appointment.
  • Restroom breaks are permitted. Before going to the restroom or stepping out for a break, please hand your test to the Testing Center staff member. They will return your test to you upon return from your break. For those students whose accommodations do not include breaks, the exam timer will not pause for breaks. You are not permitted to leave the 5th floor of Fondren Library during your break.
  • At all times during your visit to the Testing Center, you are bound by the Rice Honor Code. Violations of the Honor Code will be reported to the Honor Council.
