OASUS works to create a vibrant community of practice among peer educators at Rice. Through our professional development, employment, and networking opportunities, our peer educator programming centers inclusive learning communities, active engagement for deep learning, and metacognitive awareness of the learning process. A full schedule of training workshops and events can be found on our OASUS Program Calendar.
Training and Professional Development
We offer opportunities throughout the semester for Rice peer educators to come together to develop their skills, deepen their understanding of tutoring and learning, and reflect on their role as student leaders. Participants are paid for all professional development hours.
- Foundational Peer Educator Training - Offered at the start of each semester, our eight-hour foundational training series introduces new peer educators to fundamental theories and strategies of peer education. For a detailed overview of the curriculum, see OASUS Foundational Peer Educator Training Program.
- Professional Development Workshops - Each semester, OASUS and our learning partners hold training workshops for Rice peer educators. Past topics have included Generative AI for Peer Educators, Designing a Successful Exam Review, Showcasing peer education experience on resumes and more!
- Lunch & Learn Sessions - These lunch-time gatherings, led by Lead Peer Educators, are opportunities to join other peer tutors and TAs for an informal discussion of your tutoring practice.
