Peer Educator Program

OASUS offers employment, training, and community to Rice undergraduates who want to contribute to an inclusive culture of collaborative learning and help-seeking at Rice. As an OASUS Peer Educator, you will learn how to guide others to meaningful learning, strengthen your own understanding of academic content, and develop leadership skills.

Peer Educator & Manager Roles

  • Drop-in Study Peer Educators provide course-specific tutoring to students who visit our Drop-in Study center in O’Connor.
  • PAL Leaders plan and facilitate regular study sessions for specific courses.
  • Drop-in Study Managers work to create a welcoming, efficient environment in our Drop-in Study center and contribute to marketing and outreach efforts.

Professional Development

Peer educators have a number of formal and informal opportunities to develop their skills and deepen their understanding of tutoring and learning. Participants are paid for all professional development hours.

  • New Peer Educator Orientation - New OASUS peer educators are required to attend a two-day training Orientation at the start of the semester. For a full schedule and link to registration, see OASUS New Peer Educator Orientation.
  • Lunch & Learn Sessions - Join your fellow tutors for an informal discussion of your tutoring practice, led by our Lead Peer Educators.
  • Workshops - Each semester, OASUS and our learning partners hold training workshops for Rice peer educators. See Fall 2024 Professional Development Opportunities for workshop descriptions and other details.

All OASUS peer educators should plan to attend one Lunch & Learn and one Workshop each semester. See the Peer Educator Program calendar for dates and locations.

Rice Peer Educator Community

  • As a peer educator at OASUS, you will have the opportunity to join a community of undergraduates working as peer educators in different programs across campus.
